The glittering award ceremony, shorter than the Oscars, but more prestigious than the Emmys, was held tonight, not in the opera theatre, but in the magnificent concert hall at the Manly Leagues Club, located at the Paris end of Brookvale North.

Local golfers taking home gold statuettes were Jim Maydo (Best Foreign-Language Golfer), Joel Prothero (Best Golfer in a Presidential Role), Cam Lawler (Best Cinematography in Golf) Larry Phillips (Best Golfer in a Musical/Comedy) and Mason Hiini (Best Darts/Golf Adaptation).

Asked what it was like to win, Maydo said, "It was an honour just to be nominated."

Mason Hiini, working the room from the darts table, through the stamp collectors, to the golf table, was having a wonderful night. "I just met Dudley Moore in the toilets. It doesn't get much better than that, " he said. 

 

Joel Prothero made the 26 hour train journey from Condoblin to be here. "My Opal card took a battering, but it was worth it," he said.
